Many journeys united in Christ
Who we are
Our members represent varied faith journeys – conservative and liberal, Protestant and Catholic, and we each bring our own perspectives – contemporary and traditional, northern and southern, young and old. long-time members and recent joiners. Yet we respect each other’s journeys because what we share is more important than what distinguishes us – we are bound together in Christ. We welcome others to join our journey as a church body to live our lives and serve others as Christ would have us do.
Why we are
Second Presbyterian Church exists to continue the ministry of Jesus Christ by …
seeking disciples for the kingdom of God,
sustaining faith through worship, care, education and fellowship
serving others in need through love, compassion and support for community and worldwide mission.
Second is a church with a long and rich history of service to the wider church and community. In previous generations, members of this church helped found agencies of caring such as The Cabbage Patch Settlement House and The Presbyterian Community Center. The Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary first met in rooms at Second Presbyterian. In more recent years, our members have been active participants in, and provided leadership for, mission agencies such as United Crescent Hills Ministries, Bellewood Children’s Home, and The Wayside Christian Mission. A core value for Second Presbyterian Church is a commitment to a strong music ministry. Through adult, youth, and children’s choirs, as well as a handbell choir, we give glory to God. Musical offerings are diverse, with attention to music that has quality and depth. We are a congregation that emphasizes the worship of God with the life of the mind. Providing thoughtful, transformational educational experiences to all ages within the church and to the wider community is a priority for Second Presbyterian Church. We seek to provide worship that touches both mind, and heart, equipping and training the people of God for their daily missions within the world.
