Music leads worship by the whole congregation. Music touches the congregation in spiritual and personal ways so that each person finds a connection to grace that strengthens and encourages their faithfulness.

Our services have a "traditional" framework, with broad variations and creative directions. We sing fresh songs of praise and old hymns of faith. We lead the congregation's worship with a familiar choral work or instrumental arrangement. We encourage their participation in hymns and prayer responses, and other musical elements of the service.

Children and Youth Choirs

Chapel Choir

For children in third, fourth, and fifth grade. Participants are taught to sing in two parts. They learn how to produce proper singing vowels and how to use their voices in a choir. They are taught proper abdominal breathing, and how to make their voices carry without shouting. Participants learn the basics of music reading, including understanding note values, rhythms, and pitch. They are taught how to recognize and use the language of music, with instruction in diction, musical expression, intonation, harmony, and steady tempo. Solfege syllables are often used in learning the music. The Chapel Choir present introits and anthems regularly in the worship service. Rehearsals are on Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. in the Choir Room.

Carol Choir

Youth Choirs

Adult Choirs

Sanctuary Choir is the heart of the music ministry at Second Church. Its members share a love of music and are dedicated to enriching the worship experience for all. They lead worship by presenting anthems and service music for almost all Sundays during the year, and also present special works accompanied by orchestra during important seasons of the church year. The Sanctuary Choir meets Wednesday evenings from September - May, 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Summer Choir gives a chance for those who love to sing but are too busy to participate in the church choir just for the summer. There are no week night rehearsals. Instead, the Summer Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings. Adults as well as high school and college students are welcome Sunday mornings from June - August.
