Who We Are

Second Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States. Our roots are in the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. Presbyterians have been a vital presence and contributor to the spiritual health of this nation from before its founding.

This congregation was chartered in 1830. Following a devastating fire in 1956, the church moved from its downtown location to its current location on Old Brownsboro Road. We currently have a membership of about 1300. While we are not diverse ethnically and racially, our membership represents the broad spectrum of social and political perspectives and loyalties and a variety of faith backgrounds and understandings. We celebrate a unity that is not uniformity, a gift that we believe is from the Holy Spirit.

With gratitude to God, 2026 moves Second Presbyterian Church one year closer to celebrating our bicentennial milestone. After reflecting on our achievements and evaluating our current mission, we have identified 5 strategic pathways that will help us meet the needs of our congregation in 2030. We invite you to join us on our continued journey to preserve, strengthen, and innovate our community of faith.
