Facilities Maintenance Technician

Scope & Purpose

The Facilities Maintenance Technician at Second Presbyterian Church is a member of the church staff. The Facilities Maintenance Technician assist the Director of Facilities ensure that the facility and grounds are in optimal condition physically and aesthetically.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma and three years related experience – certification, vocational degree, or higher education degree in facility management or related field is an asset
  2. General knowledge and understanding of the principals of heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC), electrical systems, plumbing, and building systems
  3. Knowledge and skills in general maintenance procedures – some experience with painting, carpentry, light construction, drywall, general repairs, and maintenance
  4. Self-starter, competency working independently in a trustworthy and dependable manner, hardworking, punctual
  5. Aptitude for critical thinking, trouble shooting, and problem solving
  6. Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness in work
  7. Effective listening, and strong verbal and written communication skills
  8. Effective and efficient work management skills – prioritizing and scheduling work, managing time, and organizing resources to accomplish tasks within a set schedule
  9. Congenial and positive disposition, approachable
  10. Demonstration of collaboration and teamwork and ability to take direction
  11. Ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting, climbing, and working in various environments – physical ability to lift 90 pounds and climb a ladder – familiarity with OSHA safety and compliance regulations related to all work perform

Responsibilities

The Facilities Maintenance Technician assist with the upkeep and repair of the church facility infrastructure and equipment, as well as the grounds, helping to ensure a safe and functioning environment. The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs general and detailed maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the facility and grounds.

  1. Perform routine preventative and routine maintenance with various systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components of the facility (e.g. replace HVAC filters and perform minor HVAC maintenance; unclog and repair minor plumbing issues like leaky faucets and backed up sinks; clean drains and treat plumbing systems; perform basic electrical repairs like replacing outlets or switches; and such.)
  2. Perform general maintenance. Ensure accurate and thorough completion of maintenance tasks and repairs. (e.g. replace light bulbs; replace ceiling tiles; clean down spouts; treat roof drains; repair doors, locks, and windows; patch and paint doors, walls, and railings; and such.)
  3. Perform physical tasks related to the setting up and taking down of events such as arranging tables and chairs, ensuring equipment is in place according to event layouts, and restoring the facility to its original state after an event
  4. Diagnose, analyze, and trouble shoot effective and efficient solutions to fix problems related to routine maintenance and repair work.
  5. Perform routine facility and grounds inspections. Report conditions to the Director of Facilities conditions and recommend actions needed to address maintenance and repair issues.
  6. Inventory and maintain church property equipment and supplies. Perform preventative safety maintenance as needed.
  7. Follow OSHA safety and compliance regulations related to all work perform.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

The position is part-time, 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Weekly work schedule arranged in collaboration with the Director of Facilities. Cover Sundays when the Director of Facilities is on vacation.

Accountability

The Facilities Maintenance Technician reports to the Director of Facilities. The position is accountable to the Session through the Personnel Committee. The Facilities Maintenance Technician shall follow the Employee Handbook, and the Child, Youth, and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy and Procedure Manual.
